The Famine continues

Well this last Saturday we went again as a family to give out more grain. This time we were confident we would have enough. 28 bags of maize. However, over 300 people showed up.... our original plan had been to feed 200 families identified as the hardest hit for 8 weeks. When you are faced with desperate and hungry people it is not a feasible plan anymore to tell them "you arent on our list"

We had the heartbreaking job of taking home to old bibi's (grandmothers) who left empty handed. They could hardly walk because of their age and left without grain but nodded their thanks and gave us toothless grins and asked God to bless us. We were able to scrounge enough money between us to pay for another 4 bags so that they could return the following day and receive some grain.

The following day however, over 100 more folk arrived hungry and desperate for food. After the others from the day before were fed the oldest of those left were chosen to receive what little remained. Please pray for the miracle of multiplication......

Our swahili is improving but lets us down when we are trying to express our sympathy and understand their pain.
