Arusha is an amazing place. It is FULL of culture. The only price one must pay to live here is to either a. wait until you visit your home country to buy clothes or b. settle for the shapeless "missionary" look or c. embrace the bright orange, pink, green or reds of the amazing african dresses. Accepting this as the price to pay, I was somewhat slightly pleased that my time in Arusha was almost up... until today. Our lovely family friends, the Carters, showed us where to shop. Have you ever wondered where all those clothes go that are in the clothing bins next to the thrift stores or Value Village?....try Arusha. We found ourselves knee deep in piles of clothing at the local clothing market called "Matoomba". Just like Value Village you have to dig, and I mean literally dig, through mounds of clothing to find the diamond in the rough. It was really fun. All it was was a long tin roof that went on for quite a bit, and under it people had spread tarmacs down and dumped (or sometimes folded) clothing for people to search through. This was a real find, especially when we are getting ready for Zac to head off to boarding school. We were able to find the right things and at just the right amount for our missionary budget! Thanks Tami and Savannah Carter for an awesome day of shopping for the first time in a year!
Sadly we did not have a camera with us to take a photo of our experience but it is something like the photo displayed but (thankfully) it was a little less crowded and not full of food.
