The Whole Church
Doing Church masai style
After church the pews are returned to a neigbouring church
These last 4 days saw us speaking at a small Masai church deep in Masailand. Most of the congregation were Masai from traditional bomas (traditional mud huts built in a circle to house an extended family). The church was very poor and the building did not have a roof and the walls had a stick frame in place ready for an application of mud. But, God was there...
We spoke on the Father Heart of God and growing a church based on the love of God and not focussing on sin or fear of the Enemy.
We had small group discussions regarding what the scriptures say about the Father and how He relates to His children.
We recognised that even the best intentioned earthly father falls short of the Heavenly Father's ability to love us, provide for us and nurture us. When we prayed we saw a stick being broken - the stick represented the harsh words spoken by earthly fathers or even beating or punishment that had defined folk so that these thoughts would plague them and hinder their view of self and confidence to succeed. The Heavenly Father was breaking the power of the harshness and its impact on identity. Healing came.
Besides this the church was encouraged to reach out in love to those around them that others did not consider valuable. We reiterated the message that the gospel is good news. That we are the message and how we treat others is as important as what we say, if not more so.
The seminar finished with the congregation giving us gifts and blessings us.
After 4 days without electricity, running water or flushing toilets we felt immensely touched by the generosity of people who owned very little but demonstrated such joy.
