Leaders in the Making ...
Over 50% of the Tanzanian population is under the age of
18. Little appears to be happening in terms of strategic envisioning and
empowering of this future generation of leaders. As a result, many are getting
caught up in drugs, promiscuity as well as religious or political
extremism.
When a local nightclub ‘dive’ became available, we
approached the landlord who had been praying for someone to take it over with
the purpose of doing something ‘godly’ with it. Our vision of establishing a
restaurant, coffee-shop, non-alcoholic disco, skate park and training centre has proved quite compelling!
This vision for the Arusha youth sector, birthed in
prayer some 3 years ago, has grabbed the imagination of a section of our church
(all Africans but for me), who have dived into it with abandon. Hence the
imminent formation of “Leaders in the Making”, an NGO led by a team made up of
a lawyer, social worker, IT trainer, caterer, builder … plus me.
Our immediate challenge is that the last tenant ripped out ALL the wiring and plugs! Consequently we have some work to do before moving in, along with getting lighting and sound-systems installed.

What we haven't shown, due to lack of lighting, is the main disco area, a large room with stage, screen and bar area. We'll post some further pictures in due course.
This promises to be fully self-sustainable in the near to medium future, due to the revenue-generating aspects of this initiative.
So .. we are presently embarking on furnishing and outfitting the venue.
