I’ve just finished a biography of David Livingstone. He did a great deal of work in this part of the world. He traveled around 29,000 miles through some of the most challenging country. He literally drew the map of central and Eastern Africa – the continent is marked historically by the pre and post-Livingstone eras, seeing his discoveries added approx one million square miles to the then known world.
He fought ceaselessly against the slave-trade, against Boer racism in South Africa, served people and God with a seemingly endless source of energy as he treated the sick and preached to lowly and great. Yet the dear man was often discouraged by how little fruit he saw!
Had he lived much beyond his 60 years, he would have witnessed the incredible impact he’d really had, opening up the continent to the Gospel.
Here we are, some 135 years after his death, so richly benefited by his legacy, facing similar demons albeit in different guises (see previous blog)… Pray for us!
In doing so, if God gives you an impression or prompts you with an encouragement for us, let us know, won’t you?

I recently finished reading (and re-reading for the second time) Hudson Taylor's biography about his life and pioneering work in China.
Likewise, I'd be very interested in reading David Livingstone's biography also. Your blog entry has prompted me to hunt down a copy!
